Inside the Studio

Line, shape, and form merge in both the Node and Port series of relief monoprints.

Each image is created through a two-dimensional stacking of lines and interrelated colors. A reflective harmony defines the inner and outer edges of each of these images.

These images began as small paintings on paper. Then, each brush stroke was scanned, vectorized, enlarged, and cut into large, thin loops of birch wood to create the printing plates for the Node series. The silhouettes of these looping shapes inspired the printing plate shapes in the Port series.

These prints are created by rings of growth, with each line drawn, each color mixed, and each form placed in relation to its neighboring forms, and also, thereby, the entire image at once.
