Tafos
A Series of monoprints on Canvas
2024
Tafos is a series of monoprints reflecting my impressions of the natural world in Australia.
For the first six months of 2024, I lived and worked as a Fulbright Senior Scholar at the University of Canberra in Australia. In the Centre for Creative and Cultural Research at UC, I furthered my research on printed color and I learned about the history and application of color from the Australian perspective.
An alluvial logic forms the images in the Tafos series, in which one contour leads to the next, accumulating a shared language of organic shapes.
Each form in this series is based on a bit of something I saw throughout Australia; seedpod edges, distant hilltops, striated interior paint schemes, rainbow-feathered birds with strong personalities, Antarctic-bound sea waves, potently-colored flower petals, ancient misty mountains, gumtree peelings in the fall, folded rockforms at the beach, bespoke South American gardens fruits, brilliant summer sunsets, and banksia of all kinds.
